Help change lives through The Power of Bicycles
Dear Fellow Champions of Mobility,
We are blessed to live in urban contexts that are some of the wealthiest and healthiest places to be in the world. Many of us have the privilege of enabling better mobility in our communities by improving the walking, cycling and transit choices for people of all ages and abilities.
Taking a step back, how often do we reflect on leveraging our prosperity to make a global impact? Do we believe that our small choices from afar can make a tangible difference to people living in countries like rural Africa? Do we realize how simple it is to give a gift of mobility that greatly influences the life of students and healthcare workers?
This is why I am excited to share with you my partnership with World Bicycle Relief. WBR is an organization providing access to education and independence through ‘The Power of Bicycles’. A donation of CAD $205 buys a specially designed, locally assembled Buffalo Bike for a person or family. These high quality purpose designed bicycles are built to withstand the challenging terrain and conditions in rural, developing areas. Each bicycle, on average, helps five people live better lives by helping them conquer the challenge of distance with a reliable mobility option.
Being a voice within the transportation community provides me wonderful opportunities to meet like-minded professionals from all across the world. Together we share the passion of designing our cities for people and providing opportunities for all to be healthy and flourish.
