Dear Friends: Although it has been three years since COVID 19 struck Africa, the consequences are still being felt. Most African schoolgirls have missed many days of school. Dramatic increases in the cost of food and worsening economic conditions have meant that many girls will never return to school. They have been married off or put to work.
For those who can return to school, having you give them a bike can be life-changing. The girl who receives your gift of a bike:
- Lives in a small rural village, many kilometres from her school
- Will get to school faster, more regularly, and with more energy to study
- Will be more likely to graduate from high school and fulfill her dreams
- Will avoid sexual harassment on the way to and from school
- Will get her pre-school chores, like ferrying water, done faster
