Truckee to Port Townsend by Dirt
Who: Hello hello! My name is Jake Mann and I am fully addicted to bikepacking. It all began in the summer of 2020, when myself and two long lost friends set out on the Great Divide. Since then, I have embarked on several multi-day trips, pushing the comfort zone. I also started a monthly overnight ride out of Truckee, CA, which has been nothing short of a good time!
What and Where: In the beginning of June, my trusty hardtail and I will be taking off from Truckee, CA and riding 1200+ miles north on mainly dirt roads and singletrack up to Bellingham, WA. Along the way, I will provide content that is transparent with my experience, snacks/gear reviews, and most likely some laughs in between.
Why: The ability to ride a bicycle and set out on these missions has been extremely humbling, and I am forever grateful for the opportunity to do so. However, not everyone has the access or the resources to ride bikes, so it is my time to help make a difference. The World Bicycle Relief provides people with bicycles to help with travel, achieve independence, and thrive in their communities. This will not only change the quality of life for individuals, but can improve life for entire communities across the world!
How To Donate: Follow along on the journey! There will be fun and interactive ways to donate, such as spontaneous dares and incentives throughout the ride. For example: $20 to get a terrible haircut, ride in some outlandish attire, or push for some extra miles during the day. The main and most important option is to pledge a small amount for each mile traveled! Seems like a lot? Here’s a quick estimate of how much you’d be donating (estimates based off of 1200 miles).
Penny a mile = $12
Nickel a mile = $60
Dime a mile = $120
Quarter a mile = $300
Also, keep in mind that for every $165 donated, the World Bicycle Relief will be able to provide a bicycle for a person in need. Many small donations create something much bigger, so any/all help is greatly appreciated!
